Mt. SAC Women’s Golfer Saelee Places Ninth in the CCCAA State Championships

Mt. SAC Women's Golf - CCCAA State Qualifiers Katherine Chan, Cristina Liu and Precious Saelee

(Morro Bay, CA) A phenomenal season by Mt. SAC Women's Golfer Precious Saelee came to an end with a top-ten finish at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships, on Monday (Nov. 18).

Saelee, along with sophomore Cristina Liu and freshman Katherine Chan, represented the Mounties at the state championships on the beautiful ocean-view golf course at Morro Bay.

Saelee carded a 157 (75-82) and finished tied for ninth against the field of 59 golfers, on the Par-72, 5,378-yard course. She finished as the No. 1 individual, not competing with a team.

"This was a very unique group of ladies," fourth-year Mt. SAC Women's Golf coach Greg Osbourne said. "They were so supportive of each other. A coach's dream.

"Cristina (Liu) gave everything she could to our program for two years. No matter how injured, tired from work, raising a daughter and maintaining a 4.0 GPA, she never missed an event or competition.  She is moving on (University of La Verne) and we will miss her."

Osbourne, a PGA member, was proud of his two freshman state qualifiers, Saelee and Chan.

"Katherine (Chan) played hard and will take over as captain next season," Osbourne said. "She is an incredible talent and will be a force next year.

"Precious (Saelee) is a blessing to coach. She gave everything she had for us at the state tournament. She still had a top-ten finish, despite having a rough day. She is our MVP and will have a Hall of Fame career at Mt. SAC. This was a wonderful year for me as a coach."

Liu (92-89), who has represented the Mounties as team captain for the past two seasons and Chan (83-98), both carded 181, tieing for 44th place.

College of the Canyons captured their fourth overall and second consecutive CCCAA State Championship.  The Cougars join Mt. SAC (2004-2005)as the only colleges with back-to-back titles.

Canyons sophomore Haruka Koda (70-74) captured the individual state championship.  Koda won a card-off with teammate Jessie Lin (71-73), who also posted a score of 144 over the two day championship.
