
Los Angeles, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team delivered a commanding 68-33 victory over LA Trade Tech on Friday, February 14, as they near the end of their regular season. With the win, the Mounties improved their record to 23-4, maintaining a .852 winning percentage. Meanwhile, the Beavers fell to 13-13, sitting at third place in the South Coast Conference North Division.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The game started off rather competitive in the first period with both teams exchanging baskets and leads in the opening period. Taliyah McFerson led the charge for Mt. SAC, scoring the first points of the game with a layup, but LA Trade Tech quickly responded with a basket from Ariana Harper. McFerson finished the quarter with 8 points, while Harper contributed 6 for the Beavers, giving the Mounties a narrow 14-12 lead by the end of the first.
Mt. SAC found their rhythm in the second quarter, exploding for 26 points, fueled by McFerson, Elizabeth Udeze, Ryann Riddle, and key free throws from Daisia Mitchell. The Mounties dominated both ends of the court, pulling down 13 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. Meanwhile, LA Trade Tech struggled, managing only four points in the quarter—two from Aiyniah Pritchett and two from Julieta Duenas. Mt. SAC went into halftime with an impressive 40-16 lead.
The Mounties continued their dominant play in the third quarter, outscoring the Beavers 23-9. Aanisah Moncrief contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds, while Mitchell added 7 points and 2 rebounds. Despite efforts from Serenity Johnson and Akilah Watson to rally LA Trade Tech, the Beavers could not make up the deficit.
Although Mt. SAC's scoring slowed in the fourth quarter, they sealed the game with a 35-point victory. Key statistics in their dominant performance included 55 rebounds compared to just 28 for LA Trade Tech, 56 points in the paint (18 for the Beavers), and 20 fastbreak points (10 for LA Trade Tech).
