Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC softball team closed out an impressive regular season with a 29-11 overall record, finishing second in the South Coast Conference at 16-5. Along the way, the Mounties climbed as high as No. 4 in the state rankings and currently sit at No. 12, after going through a late-season rough patch.
While the season is far from over, the team's performance has not gone unnoticed. The All-South Coast Conference selections were announced last week, and Mt. SAC was well represented.
Emily Sandoval earned First Team honors after a dominant freshman season at first base, hitting .467 while leading the conference with 10 home runs and 52 RBIs, along with 13 doubles.
Sophomore Sarai Raygoza, a two-time All-SCC selection, also landed on the First Team after batting .422 with four home runs, 16 doubles, and 34 RBIs, while leading the conference with 23 stolen bases.
Amanda Porterfield rounded out the First Team selections, hitting .410 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs, serving as a consistent offensive force throughout the season.
On the Second Team, sophomore infielder Desiree Morales earned recognition for her contributions, batting .412 with 33 RBIs and 12 doubles.
Freshman pitcher Zoe Herford also secured Second Team honors after an outstanding season in the circle, posting a 16-3 record with 118 strikeouts over 94.1 innings pitched.
Additional contributions were recognized with Honorable Mention selections, including freshmen Marti Ann Leach, Angelina Martinez, and Karissa Blanco, each of whom played key roles in the Mounties' success throughout the year.
NEXT UP:
With the regular season in the books, Mt. SAC now turns their attention to the postseason. The Mounties have earned the No. 4 seed in the SoCal Regional playoffs and will host No. 14 seed Southwestern in a best-of-three series beginning Friday, May 1 at 4:00 p.m. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 PM, with a decisive third game to follow if necessary. The winner will advance to the SoCal Super Regionals, which begin, Thursday, May 7. Come out and support the Mounties as they begin their playoff run!
