Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Softball Team made quick work of Orange Coast College on Saturday, April 18, defeating the Pirates 8-0 in five innings. The Mounties improve to 27-11 overall and sit second in the South Coast Conference at 16-5.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
It was a fiery start for the ladies when Emily Sandoval opened the scoring with a triple to left field that drove in Sarai Raygoza. Amanda Porterfield followed with an RBI single and Marti Ann Leach closed out the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run as the Mounties jumped to a 4-0 lead.
The momentum carried right into the second. Sandoval delivered again, this time lacing an RBI double to extend the lead. Moments later, Brooklyn Game reached on a Pirates error that allowed Sandoval to cross the plate, pushing the advantage to 6-0.
Mt. SAC continued to capitalize on opportunities, adding two more runs with patience at the plate. Porterfield scored after Kayla Mendoza was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Desiree Morales lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home the eighth and final run.
That was more than enough support for Izel Avalos, who was in complete control in the circle. Avalos tossed a five-inning shutout, giving up five hits while striking out four and issuing no walks to secure her second win of the season.
