Walnut, Calif. – For a moment, it looked like the Mt. SAC Softball Team might finally have met their match. But after allowing the LA Harbor Seahawks an early lead, the Mounties flipped the script and powered their way to a 9-3 comeback win on Friday, February 13.

With the victory, Mt. SAC improves to 9-1 overall and stays perfect in South Coast Conference play at 5-0. LA Harbor drops to 3-6 on the season and 0-3 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

By the second inning, the Seahawks were up 3-0, with runners scoring on passed balls and fielder's choice plays. Mounties starter Zoe Herford, who's been solid all season, battled through 1.1 innings and picked up three strikeouts before handing things over to Karissa Blanco.

Blanco closed out the game, holding LA Harbor scoreless the rest of the way and giving the Mounties time to wake up the bats.

In the bottom of the third, the comeback began. Angelina Martinez delivered a clutch single that brought home Sarai Raygoza and Desiree Morales, cutting the deficit to one and shifting the momentum back to the home dugout.

In a big fourth inning, Mt. SAC exploded for five runs behind key hits from Raygoza, Amanda Porterfield, and Emily Sandoval, turning a tight contest into a confident 7-3 lead.

The Mounties didn't let up. Raygoza nailed a double in the fifth to score Kayla Mendoza, and Mendoza returned the favor in the sixth with an RBI single that plated Porterfield. And with that, the Mounties walked away with a 9-3 victory in  another dominant performance.
