Riverside, Calif. – After a narrow 6-5 loss to Antelope Valley on Tuesday, the No. 5-ranked Mt. SAC Softball Team bounced back in a big way with a 9-0 blank of Riverside City College in just six innings. The Mounties improve to 4-1 on the season with the run-rule win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Mt. SAC started slow and steady, scoring a run in the first inning when Sophia Avina delivered an RBI hit to drive in Amanda Porterfield. The Mounties continued to apply pressure, adding another run in the fourth before tacking on two more in the fifth inning. RBI hits from Avina and Marti Ann Leach extended the lead to 4-0.

The Mounties put the game away with a dominant sixth inning, plating five runs to trigger the run rule. Hits by Sarai Raygoza and Angelina Martinez brought home Sophia Sanchez and Natalie Valiente. Vanessa Tamayo crossed the plate shortly after, and a Riverside error allowed Emily Sandoval to score, pushing Mt. SAC's lead to nine and ending the contest early.

Mt. SAC finished with 12 hits in 33 at-bats, while Riverside was limited to just three hits on the day.

Zoe Herford got the start in the circle for the Mounties, tossing 3.1 innings while allowing two hits, issuing four walks, and striking out two. Karissa Blanco closed out the game, facing 11 batters and giving up just one hit with one walk and one strikeout, combining for a strong pitching performance.
