
Walnut, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Softball Team wrapped up the regular season on a high note with a narrow 4-3 victory over Antelope Valley College on Thursday, April 24. The win places the Mounties fourth in the South Coast Conference, closing the season with an impressive 26-13 overall record and an 18-6 mark in conference play. Antelope Valley ends its regular season in third place in the Western State South Conference at 27-9 overall and 8-4 in conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mt. SAC came out hot, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Morgan Kneubuhler and Samantha Orozco each delivered RBI singles, bringing home Isabella Guerrero and Katie Griego.
Antelope Valley quickly responded in the second inning. Kaili York doubled to drive in one run, followed by a Marissa Rodriguez single that tied the game at 2-2.
The Mounties regained the lead in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice by Guerrero, scoring Isabella Aspeitia. One inning later, Aspeitia returned the favor with an RBI single, plating Griego to push the lead to 4-2.
The Marauders mounted a final push in the sixth. York's sacrifice fly to right field scored Jeannette Camarena, trimming the lead to one. However, Mt. SAC held firm to secure the win.
Kayden Connaty started for the Mounties, tossing two innings with three hits, two earned runs, and one strikeout. Samantha Vizcarra earned the win in relief, going five innings with three hits, one earned run, and five strikeouts.
