(Walnut, CA) With one game remaining in the regular season, the Mt. SAC Softball team concluded the South Coast Conference schedule with a 7-3 victory over Pasadena City College on Friday, April 19. With this win, the No. 4 State-ranked Mounties improved to 31-8 overall and 18-3 in conference play. The Mounties currently sit atop the conference standings, with Long Beach City College in second place with a 16-3 record. The Vikings have two remaining SCC games against ELAC and El Camino.
In the win over PCC, the Mounties took a 4-3 lead in the third inning and added a single run in the fourth, followed by two more in the sixth to secure a 7-3 victory. Three players had multiple hits for the Mounties - Janis Espinoza (3-3, 3 Rs, 1 RBI, Dbl., 2 SBs), Katie Griego (2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, HR), and Morgan Kneubuhler (2-4, R, 2 RBIs, HR).
Highlighting the first and third 2-run innings for the Mounties were a solo home run by Griego and a run-scoring double by Alyssa Rubalcava for the initial 2-0 lead, followed by solo home runs by Kneubuhler and Amanda Esquivel in the third inning.
The Mounties will wrap up the regular season with a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 24, as they host L.A. Mission on Sophomore Day.
