(Walnut, CA) In a South Coast Conference game, Mt. SAC Softball managed to secure a narrow 3-2 victory against Long Beach City College on Thursday, April 20th, helping them maintain their position at the top of the conference and close to clinching yet another conference title. With only three games left in the conference, the Mounties currently have an impressive 31-5 overall record, with a conference record of 20-1.

As the post-season approaches, the latest 3CFCA State poll (April 19) ranks Mt. SAC at No. 3 in the state. The So Cal Regionals will begin on May 5th with round 1 action.

Sophomore right fielder Mia Mendoza was instrumental in the win, hitting a crucial two-run RBI single to right field, which scored sophomore shortstop Katelyn Olson and freshman third baseman Janis Espinoza, taking the Mounties ahead with a 3-2 lead in the third inning. Freshman Eleyna Urbina completed the final four and two-thirds innings with no hits and five strikeouts, earning her 16th win of the season with just two losses.

Olson (1 for 2, 2 R) and Ashley Diaz (1 for 2) both hit well, with Olson scoring the first run in the first inning on a passed ball. Although Long Beach City College took the lead with two runs in the second inning, they couldn't keep the advantage, and Mt. SAC Softball managed to hold on for a hard-fought victory.
