Mt. SAC Defeats Cerritos, 7-1, in South Coast Conference action

(Norwalk, CA) On Monday (April 3), the Mt. SAC Softball team secured a 7-1 victory over Cerritos College, improving their record to 10-1 in the South Coast Conference and 19-5 overall.

The No. 5 state-ranked Mounties took the lead in the second inning, with the Falcons (13-10, 7-3) tying it up 1-1 in the second inning but failing to pose a threat for the remainder of the game.

The game was effectively won in the sixth inning, with Mt. SAC scoring four runs, including a double by sophomore second baseman Asia Chacon that brought sophomore catcher Celeste Cortez (2 for 3, R, Dbl.) home, giving the Mounties a 4-1 lead. Three more runs followed thanks to two fielding errors by the Falcons, bringing the score to 7-1.

The Mounties were led by Chacon (3 for 3, 2 Dbls.), who recorded three hits, a run, and an RBI, while Alyssa Rubalcava (1 for 3) had two RBIs.

Brianna Goris (1 for 2, R), the sophomore first baseman, hit her fifth home run of the season.

Freshman pitcher Miranda Rodriquez (5.1 IP, 3 Ks) maintained her unbeaten record, securing her fifth win.
