(Walnut, CA) With the exception of the last two years due to the pandemic, when a season was canceled and the next was limited to only 16 games, the Mt. SAC Softball team has won at least 30 games in 15 of the last 16 years.
The 30th win this season came at the expense of the L.A. Harbor College Seahawks, as the Mounties pounded out a season-best 18 hits, in route to a 20-2 South Coast Conference win Tuesday (April 12) in five innings.
With the win, the Mounties improved to 30-3 overall and 15-2 in the conference and have won 13 straight games.
Two big innings led to the run explosion, with Mt. SAC scoring seven in the second and eight in the fourth.
Shortstop Isabela Gurule (3 for 4, 2 R, 4 RBIs, Dbl.) led the Mounties, along with right fielder Haley Moran (3 for 3, 3 R, RBI, Dbl.) with three hits each. Clearing the fences twice for her state-leading 12th and 13th home runs of the season was designated player Brianna Goris (2 for 2, 3 R, 4 RBIs).
Second baseman Desiree Bravo was 2 for 2, with three runs scored, three RBIs and a triple.
In addition, Goris is nearing the .600 mark for an average (.596), which is also tops in the state. She has 53 hits in 89 at-bats.
Five other players had two hits each for Mt. SAC.
In the circle, Gillian Molina (3-0) won her third game, as she allowed only two hits, no runs and struck out six Seahawks.
The Mounties will host El Camino for another SCC game, on Thursday (April 14) at Mt. SAC.
