(Whittier, CA) After being part of two combined no-hitters earlier this season, Mt. SAC sophomore pitcher Grace Pieson did it her way and pitched a complete-game, 4-0, 7-inning no-no Tuesday (April 5) at Rio Hondo in a South Coast Conference game.
In the process, the lefty fanned 10 Roadrunners, her fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season and improved to 18-3. Pieson is third in the state with her 18 wins.
In March, Pieson and sophomore pitcher Gillian Molina combined for two no-hitters over East Los Angeles and Ventura.
Mt. SAC (27-3, 14-2) left fielder Arely Coronado (2 for 3, R, RBI) and outfielder Mikenna Barcelona (2 for 3) led the team with two hits each.
Freshman first baseman Brianna Goris was 1 for 3, with two RBIs and a double.
Goris started the scoring for the Mounties in the third inning with a one-out double, scoring second baseman Asia Chacon (1 for 3, R) and Arely Coronado for the 2-0 lead.
The Mounties added a single run in the fourth on an RBI single by Arely Coronado, scoring catcher Celeste Cortez (1 for 3 R) to lead, 3-0.
In the seventh inning, pinch hitter Lauren Avalos (1 for 1, R) came across the plate on a passed ball in the seventh with the fourth run.
Mt. SAC will travel to College of the Canyons for a double header on Saturday (April 9). Game times are noon and 2:30 pm.
