Top-ranked Softball picks up pair of non-conference wins against Santiago Canyon and Palomar

(Orange, CA) In a non-conference doubleheader, Mt. San Antonio College (19-3), ranked No. 1 in the most recent California Community College Fastpitch Coaches state poll, defeated No. 11 Santiago Canyon College, 2-0, and No. 7 Palomar College, 1-0, on Saturday, March 19.

Mt. SAC 2 Santiago Canyon 0

Grace Pieson (12-3) earned the complete-game victory for the Mounties, holding the host Hawks (16-6) scoreless in seven innings on four hits.

Top hitters for Mt. SAC included Asia Chacon (2-2, R) and Emily Barba (2-3, R). Haley Moran's sacrifice fly in the second inning scored Barba to account for the Mounties' earned run.

Mt. SAC 1 Palomar 0

After losing to the Comets (18-4) on Feb. 25, Mt. SAC returned the favor behind a home run by Brianna Goris (3-3, R, RBI, 2B, HR) in the fourth inning.

Serena Navarrete (5-0) got the win for the Mounties, throwing five innings and allowing one hit. Pieson picked up her second save of the season, pitching two innings while striking out two.

Mt. SAC will host No. 20 Ventura College (16-6) on Tuesday, March 22, in a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m.
