Mounties Softball defeat ELAC, 10-1, in five innings

(Monterey Park, CA) And the hits keep coming for the Mt. SAC Softball team, the hottest team in Southern California and second hottest in the state, with its seventh consecutive win to start the season.

The Mounties, with 10 hits, defeated host East Los Angeles College, 10-1, on Thursday (Feb. 10) in five innings in a South Coast Conference game.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Leading the way in the circle for the Mounties was sophomore pitcher Grace Pieson, with a five-inning three-hitter, allowing a run and striking out 11 batters.

Center fielder Ashley Diaz (2-3, 2 R, SB) led the Mounties with three RBIs and a double.

Two other players also had two hits – Alyssa Castaneda (2-2, R, Dbl) and Brianna Goris (2-2, R, Dbl). Shortstop Ariana Coronado (1-2, R, 2 RBIs) added a triple for the Mounties.

Leading 4-1 in the fifth inning, the Mounties broke open the game with six runs for the 10-1 lead.

Highlighting the inning, was pinch hitter Isabela Gurule with a two-run single to right-center, scoring Annemarie Gutierrez and Diaz for the ninth and tenth runs of the game.

Mt. SAC will finally have its home opener, Tuesday (Feb. 15) as they host L.A. Harbor.
