Mountie Softball stays hot with 10-4 win over Antelope Valley

(Lancaster, CA) And the hits keep on coming, as the Mt. SAC Softball team won its fifth consecutive game to start the season, with a 10-4 win over host Antelope Valley College on Friday (Feb. 4) in a non-conference game.

Trailing, 2-1, in the fifth inning, the Mounties (5-0) rallied for five runs to a 6-2 lead and never looked back. They added a run in the sixth and three in the seventh. As a team, Mt. SAC had 12 hits.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was shortstop Ariana Coronado (2-4) with two hits, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and three runs scored.

Also, with two hits was catcher Annemarie Gutierrez (2-2, 2 Dbls., R) and centerfielder Ashley Diaz (2-4, R, 2 Dbls, SB).

Second baseman Mikenna Barcelona (1-2, R, HR) added three RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Grace Pieson added to her team-leading strikeout total (31) with nine Ks. Pieson has 19 strikeouts in her last two games.

Highlighting the five-run, fourth inning with 11 batters at the plate, were two errors by Antelope Valley and five unearned runs.

Two of those runs came in when shortstop Ariana Coronado reached first on an error in centerfield, scoring Asia Chacon and Rylee Mirano.
