Mt. SAC Softball Set to Host Super Regional vs. College of the Canyons

(Walnut, CA) After a two-game sweep of Fullerton in Round 1, the Mounties (35-7) will host No. 8 seed College of the Canyons (28-14) in a best of three series. First pitch is Friday May 11 at 7:00 pm with game two set for Saturday at 3:00 p.m.

The Mounties split the two games against Canyons this season, winning the first game 1-0, behind a three-hit shutout by freshman pitcher Briana Wheeler (22-5).

Wheeler, named to the CCCAA All-State team, had seven strikeouts in the game and left fielder Candace Haliburton knocked in the only run with a double, scoring Ciara Granado.

Canyons won the last game of the regular season against Mt. SAC, 4-3. The Cougars took a late lead scoring three runs in the sixth inning to win the nonconference game.

The Cougars, led by the pitching duo of Joy Veloz (11-5) and Katie Taix (10-4) and sophomore shortstop Danielle Chatman (56 for 126, 11 HR) with a .444 average.

The Mounties, led by All-State shortstop Carissa Felix (52 for 126, 3 HR, 17 Dbls.) with a .413 average and All-South Coast Conference first team, Granado (48 for 118, 5 HR, 10 Dbls.) batting .407.

This will be Mt. SAC's twelfth appearance in the last 15 years in the CCCAA So Cal Super Regionals.
