(Louisville, KY) Mt. SAC Softball Assistant Coach Alex Mascarenas was named the 2018 California Junior College Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year.
Mascarenas, the Mounties hitting and infield coach, was instrumental in helping guide Mt. SAC to the 2018 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Softball State Championship. Under his hitting guidance, the 2018 Mounties excelled at the plate, scoring 288 runs, 31 home runs with a .333 team batting average, .399 on base percentage and a .472 slugging percentage.
This marked the Mounties 5th state championship and first under head coach, Rubilena Rojas. For their successful 2018 campaign, the Mountie Softball Staff (Rubilena Rojas, Jim Bollier, Alex Mascarenas, Jessica Vogel) was also named the 2018 NFCA California Junior College National Coaching Staff of the Year.
Mascarenas will receive the award at the 2018 NFCA National Convention Champions Brunch to be held on December 8th, in Chicago (IL).
