Mounties Win CCCAA Super Regional Opener Over Cerritos, 6-1

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team opened the CCCAA Super Regional with a 6-1 win over Cerritos College, led by pitcher Racqual Espinoza's two-hitter Friday night before a packed stadium at the Walnut campus.

The No. 2 seed Mounties (38-3) will play in a winners' bracket game Saturday against No. 3 seed El Camino (37-6), with the winner advancing to the championship game on Sunday. Today's game time is 3:00 p.m.

Espinoza pitched into the seventh inning, strucking out eight batters and only allowed an unearned run for her 16th victory of the season.

Espinoza opened the game retiring the first eight Falcons batters, including five strikeouts, before allowing a single in the third. After allowing a single the next inning, Espinoza retired six of the next seven batters before allowing the only run of the game in the sixth inning.

Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings finished up for Espinoza in the seventh for the final two outs.

The Mounties, who are playing in their 14th Super Regional in the last 15 years, led, 2-1, in the sixth inning, but broke the game open with four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run by Espinoza.

Sophomore left fielder Aleyah Wilbon (3 for 3, RBI) led the Mounties with three hits and sophomores Bree Maikai (2-3, run, SB) and Alyssa Rasso (2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, dbl.) added two each.
