Softball Records 12th Shutout of the Season, Defeats Chaffey College, 9-0; Espinoza Hits Game-Ending 3-Run Homer, Wins 10th Game

(Walnut, CA) Sophomore pitcher Racqual Espinoza pitched the Mounties to their 12th shutout of the year and hit a three-run home run to end the game en route to a 9-0 victory over Chaffey College in a South Coast Conference North game Thursday afternoon.

The game, which ended on Espinoza's blast in the fifth inning, improved to 10-1 in the circle this season and helped the Mounties improve to a 28-3 record and 8-0 in conference. She also recorded nine strikeouts and allowed two hits.

Sophomore center fielder Bree Maikai (2 for 3, run, RBI) and sophomore second baseman Mandy Larios (2 for 3, dbl., run) each collected two hits.

The Mounties scored the only runs they would need in their first at bat with four runs in the first inning.

After Larios and sophomore catcher Taylor Jaurique scored for the 2-0 lead, sophomore third baseman Erin Mendoza hit a two-run double, scoring sophomore right fielder Alyssa Rasso (1 for 2, dbl., 2 runs) and her twin sister Toni Mendoza for the 4-0 advantage.

Mt. SAC bookended the scoring in the last inning with five runs to end the game.
