Mt. SAC Softball Sweeps DH; Defeats Palomar, 7-2, Santiago Canyon, 12-4

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Softball team swept two games on Saturday in a non-conference double header, defeating Palomar, 7-2, and Santiago Canyon, 12-4, in five innings.

With the two wins the Mounties raised their record to 26-3 overall, the third-best in the state.

Sophomores Bree Maikai and Aleyah Wilbon led the Mounties with three hits each in the two games combined. Maikai also knocked in three runs and scored two runs.

In the first-game victory over Palomar, the Mounties scored solo runs in the first and third innings and two each in the fourth and sixth frames.

The two-run innings were highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore second baseman Mandy Larios in the fourth and a RBI single by sophomore catcher Taylor Jaurique and a bases loaded RBI walk by Jackie Hooper to finish the scoring.

Sophomore pitcher Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings, who is third in the state with a 1.09 ERA, pitched a complete-game three hitter and struck out six for her eighth win of the season.

In the second game victory over Santiago Canyon, sophomore pitcher Racqual Espinoza had two RBI doubles and won her 10th game of the season in the circle. She also had five strikeouts.

The Mounties, who remain ranked fourth in the state and second in So Cal, scored four runs in the first, one in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth innings.

The three-run third was highlighted by back-to-back solo round trippers by sophomore third baseman Erin Mendoza and Espinoza (3 for 3, 3 RBI).
