(Riverside, CA) Just short of a complete-game victory, red shirt freshman Sarah Wapner pitched the Mt. SAC Softball team to a 6-3 victory over host Riverside City College Thursday in a non-conference game at Brown Field.

Wapner, who made her first appearance in the Mounties' victory over Antelope Valley College on Tuesday, recorded her first college victory with the win over RCC and had six strikeouts.

"She (Wapner) did awesome," Rojas said. "She got stronger throughout the game."

Adding to the third consecutive win of the season for the Mounties was the dramatic ending, as Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings struck out the final RCC batter with the tying run at the plate.

Kennedy-Cummings, who had 16 wins last year and had a state-leading 0.99 ERA, recorded her second save in the last two games. In the Mounties' 8-7 win over Antelope Valley College on Tuesday she struck out the final batter for the win.

"She (Kennedy-Cummings) did exactly what was asked and that was to shut it down," Mt. SAC coach Ruby Rojas said.

Leading the way for Mt. SAC was sophomore Erin Mendoza, who was 2 for 3, two runs scored and knocked in two runs. It was the third consecutive game Mendoza has had multiple hits.

Five other Mounties had two hits adding to the 16-hit attack and freshman third baseman Kristen Williams led the team with two RBIs.

Mt. SAC took an early lead, scoring four runs on six hits in the top of the first on RBIs by catcher Taylor Jaurique, Mendoza, right fielder Mariah Zaragoza and Williams. The Mounties added another tally in the third for the 5-0 lead.

RCC scored a single run in the bottom of the third to trail, 5-1, and the Mounties added another in the sixth before the dramatic seventh-inning.

RCC scored two runs off of Wapner to trail, 6-3, before Kennedy-Cummings ended the game.
