Softball downs Pasadena City College 6-2

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – The Mounties softball team keeps rolling along with another double-digit hit performance, a 6-2 win over Pasadena City College, and saw 10 players get a hit in a South Coast Conference game Thursday afternoon at Robinson Park.

Freshman catcher Taylor Jaurique (Wilson HH HS), sophomore second baseman Anise Avalos (Claremont HS) and freshman centerfielder Bree Maikai (Oak Hill HS) all collected two hits each.

Jaurique (2 for 4, run) and Avalos (2 for 2, run, 2 RBIs, SB) each had a double for Mt. SAC.

Mounties pitcher Racqual Espinoza (Golden Valley HS) won her eighth game of the season with five-inning, three-hit performance.

The freshman lowered her No. 2 state ERA to .076 with only a run and also had three strikeouts.

Mt. SAC took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore third baseman  Priscilla Leon (Upland HS) and Maikai (2 for 2, run, RBI) each singled in a run.

Avalos doubled in a pair of runs in the third inning to give Mt. SAC a 4-0 lead and the Mounties added singled runs in the fourth and fifth innings for the 6-2 final score.

Mt. SAC pounded out 13 hits in the game and now sports a 29-4 overall record and 16-2 in conference.
