(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – As the Mt. SAC softball team prepares for the CCCAA playoffs, the post season awards came pouring in to the recently crowned South Coast Conference champions with a state pitcher of the year, two All-So Cal Region players and six All-Conference members.

Freshman pitcher Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings (Chino HS) received the highest award by being named "Co Pitcher of the Year" in the state by a panel of coaches from the CCCFCA.

Kennedy-Cummings was also chosen as SCC "Pitcher of the Year." She was 4-0 in conference, along with the top ERA, 0.88, 56 IP and 56 Ks. Overall she posted a 13-2 record with a 0.94 ERA, which was second in the state and first in Southern California and struck out 113 batters in 127 innings.

In one of her last games of the regular season, she pitched a perfect game in a 12-0 win over Orange Coast College.

In addition, sophomore Aimee Rodriguez (John Burroughs HS) and freshman pitcher Jessica Olvera (John F. Kennedy HS) were named to the All-Southern California Region team.

Rodriguez finished with a .443 batting average with 39 hits and a .648 slugging percentage.

Olvera was 11-2 overall and eighth in the state with a 1.48 ERA and struck out 52 batters.

A whopping six players and head coach Ruby Rojas were named to the All-SCC 2016 team.

Rojas, in her fourth season as head coach, has been named the SCC "Coach of the Year" for the second time in four years.

Rojas, along with her coaching staff of Jim Bollier, Crystl Bustos and Alex Mascarenas, led their team to a 35-5 record.

"This award should really be 'staff of the year,'" Rojas said, referring to her award.

Rojas is a graduate of the University of Virginia (2003) and was a member of the 2008 fifth-place Venezuelan Olympic team.

In addition to Kennedy-Cummings, Olvera and Rodriguez were named to the first team All-SCC.

Olvera finished with an 8-2 record in conference with a 1.62 ERA, 43.1 IP and 30 Ks.

First baseman Rodriguez was the SCC batting champ with .486 average, 2 HR and 19 RBIs.
