San Diego, Calif. – It was double the victory for Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country at the Manny Bautista College Open, where they secured first place in both the 4-mile main event and the overflow race.
In the 4-mile race, the Mounties posted a team time of 1:45:14 with an average of 21:02 per runner, earning a narrow team victory with 61 points. Cerritos followed closely with 64, while Riverside finished third with 96 points. San Diego Mesa (125) and San Bernardino Valley (148) rounded out the top five among a highly competitive field of 22 schools and 192 athletes.
Mt. SAC placed all five of its scoring runners within the top 20 finishers. Diego Varela led the charge with a 5th-place finish in 20:37.6. He was followed by Jonah Botello in 10th (21:03.1), Logan Berkley in 12th (21:03.4), Destino Soto in 16th (21:12.9), and Alfredo Vargas, who secured 20th overall (scoring 18 points) with a time of 21:17.1. Alex Figueroa (21:26.1) and Derek Campos (21:28.2) also turned in strong performances, finishing 24th and 25th overall, while earning scoring positions of 22 and 23, respectively.
In the overflow race, Mt. SAC again came out on top with a team time of 1:47:40, averaging 21:32 per runner, and a remarkably low team score of 19. The race featured 118 runners from seven schools. Riverside City College took second with 65 points, and Cerritos placed third with 72.
In a brilliant display of pack running, Mt. SAC placed eight runners among the top nine finishers. Connor Sybrandy won the race with a time of 21:14.2, while Brady Roldan (3rd, 21:27.4), Ethan McGarry (4th, 21:37.6), Lucas Blevins (5th, 21:40.1), and Antonio Alcantar (6th, 21:41.0) rounded out the scoring five. Also finishing impressively were Jaden Goetz (7th, 21:41.7), Ryan Dudley (8th, 21:42.2), and Andy Silva (9th, 21:46.6), contributing to Mt. SAC's overwhelming presence at the front of the pack.

The Mounties return home to host the world-renowned Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational on Friday, October 17, before heading into the South Coast Conference Championships at the end of the month.
