The Mt. SAC Men's Cross Country Team demonstrated their talent and endurance at the Mark Covert Classic on Saturday, August 31. Hosted by Cal State Fullerton, this meet featured an 8k course, longer than most of the other routes the team will compete on this season. The team's collective effort resulted in impressive finishes across the board.
Freshman Emanual Hernandez led the way with a standout performance, clocking in a time of 24:31.5 and securing 8th place overall. His exceptional run highlighted a series of strong splits, including a notable final segment of 1:26.2. Jack Horrocks followed closely behind with a time of 24:59.9, finishing 25th overall and demonstrating consistency throughout the race.
Noah Chairez and Diego Varela finished nearly side by side with times of 25:27.1 and 25:27.8, respectively, proving their competitiveness and stamina. Austin Ledgerwood rounded out the top five for Mt. SAC with a time of 25:35.0, earning a 43rd place finish and delivering a solid performance from beginning to end.
The final two runners who contributed to Mt. SAC's total score were Joel Fischer with a time of 26:05.8 and a 51st place finish and Max Loera with a time of 26:07.1 and in 53rd place.
As a team, Mt. SAC completed the meet with a combined time of 2:06:01 with an average time of 25:12 per runner. They placed 7th overall, reflecting a strong and competitive presence at the meet.
The Men's Cross Country Team will compete at the Oxnard Invite at Oxnard College on Friday, September 6, at 7:00 AM.
