(Long Beach, CA) Racers from 27 community colleges convened at El Dorado East Regional Park in Long Beach to compete in the 2023 Men's Southern California Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 3.

At last year's event, Mt. San Antonio College finished second behind San Diego Mesa College. This year, however, the teams switched places with the Mounties taking first with 40 points and the Olympians coming in second with 43. Bakersfield College came in a distant third with 99 points.

In a field of 189 competitors, seven Mt. SAC racers finished in the top 30 on the four-mile course.

Top-10 finishers for the Mounties included Johnathon Zavala (2nd place, 19:15.7), Matthew Donis (4th, 19:30.5) and Jordan Galindo (6th, 19:49.2). Christian DeLoye (11th, 20:04.9), Joel Fischer (17th, 20:10.5), Aidan Gomez (21st, 20:20.1) and Andres Chavez (27th, 20:31.4) rounded out Mt. SAC's top-30 placings.

The Mounties return to action at the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Woodward Park in Fresno. In spite of coming in second in the SoCal Regionals last year, Mt. SAC captured the title at the State Championships ahead of SD Mesa and Riverside City College.
