Mt. SAC Cross Country Competes at Stanford Invite

(Palo Alto, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams traveled north to Palo Alto to compete at the prestigious Stanford Invitational, on Saturday, September 29th.

After a year hiatus the 44th Stanford Invitational returned, hosting over 4,000 runners from high school, community college and 4-year institutions on the Stanford Golf Course.

Leading the way for the men in the 8 kilometer (4.97 miles) men's race was Salvador Capetillo and in the 6 kilometer (3.73 miles) race for the women it was Rebecca Ruiz.

The men scored 307 points, finishing 12th out of 18 teams, which included top universities such as Stanford, UCLA and Arizona State. The Mounties were the highest placing men's community college team out of the three community colleges in the event.

Capetillo, who averaged under 5-minutes a mile (4:59), placed 21st out of 184 runners with a time of 24:49.2, just over a minute behind the invitational winner (23:46.4).

As a team the Mt. SAC Women scored 527 points, finishing 18th.  Ruiz led the seven Mountie runners finishing in 87th place with a time of 23:07.3.

Both the Mt. SAC men's and women's teams will compete this Saturday, October 6th in the Brubaker Invitational, which will be held Irvine Regional Park (Orange, CA).
