The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team wrapped up their 2024 season at the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Saturday, November 9. The Mounties began the weekend with a dominant 20-4 victory over Rio Hondo on Friday, November 8. Nicolas Flores was on fire, going 3-for-4, while Nicolas Lara added three goals of his own. The Mounties shot 58%, converting 20 of their 34 attempts, and accumulated 10 saves in the win.
However, the Mounties' strong start was followed by a challenging road ahead. In the SCC Championship semifinals, Mt. SAC faced Long Beach City, where they suffered a 19-10 loss. Lara led the offense with four goals, while Flores and Trevor Davis each added two. Despite recording 13 saves, the Mounties were unable to overcome the Vikings' attack.
The final game of the season was a heartbreaking 18-17 loss to El Camino College. The Mounties fought hard, with Davis scoring six goals, Roman Robles adding four, and Flores, Michael McMillan, and Lara each contributing two. Mt. SAC recorded 16 saves, just edging El Camino's 13, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.
Notable standouts for the Mounties this season included Trevor Davis, who finished with a team-high 55 goals and 35 steals, followed by Nicolas Lara with 50 goals and 31 steals. Michael McMillan contributed 35 goals and 28 steals, while Nicolas Flores added 30 goals and 19 steals. In goal, Henry De Luna recorded 145 saves, and Zayd Karim added 83 saves.
The Mounties concluded the season with a 17-15 overall record and a 2-3 mark in conference play. While the team fell short of their championship goals, they look forward to building on their progress and returning even stronger next year. Way to go, Mounties!
