Cerritos ends Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo season with late score in opening round of regionals

(Glendora, CA) In the opening round of the 3C2A SoCal Regional Championships on Nov. 10, at Citrus College, No. 4 seed Mt. San Antonio College drew South Coast Conference rival and No. 5 seed Cerritos College, who the Mounties (22-8) defeated, 14-13, on Nov. 4 for the SCC title. This time, however, it was the Falcons (22-9) who eked out a one-point win, 13-12, to advance to the next round of the playoffs.

Mt. SAC jumped out to a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter, only to see Cerritos bounce back with a pair of goals to cut into that lead by the quarter's end. The teams traded scores in the second, and the Mounties took a 6-5 lead into halftime.

The Falcons got the upper hand in the third quarter to knot the score at 9 going into the fourth. Mt. SAC opened the final quarter with three goals to take a 12-9 lead with 5:28 to play, but Cerritos responded with three goals of their own. With the score tied, 12-12, the Falcons scored the winning goal with 36 seconds to play, the only time the Mounties trailed during the entire game.

On the day, Edward (EJ) Lynch led Mt. SAC with three goals, while teammates George Roby-Unkovich, Alex Lopez, and Brandon Fabrega added two each.
