Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo defeats Long Beach to advance to SCC title game

(Long Beach, CA) In the preliminary round of the South Coast Conference Championships, No. 2 seed Mt. San Antonio College (21-7, 4-1) defeated five-time defending conference champion and No. 3 seed Long Beach City College (11-15, 2-3) by the score of 14-12 on Thursday, Nov. 2.

With the score tied at 11 through three quarters, and at 12 midway through the fourth, Alex Lopez (4:13) and Roman Robles (0:30) scored unassisted goals down the stretch to lift the Mounties to victory.

Lopez (four steals) finished with three goals on the day, as did teammate George Roby-Unkovich. In addition, Edward (EJ) Lynch, Aidan Gilloly (five assists, six steals) and Brandon Fabrega (two assists, two steals) scored two goals each for Mt. SAC.

Zayd Karim (one quarter, four saves) and Elijah Swaim (three quarters, four saves) combined in goal for the Mounties.

With the win, Mt. SAC advances to the championship game against No. 1 seed Cerritos College (21-8, 5-0) at Long Beach City College on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1:45 p.m. The Falcons defeated the Mounties, 13-9, back on Oct. 18.
