Mountie Men's Water Polo win two, lose two on the road at West Valley College Invite

(Saratoga, CA) After returning home from a season-opening tournament in Annapolis, Maryland at the Naval Academy last weekend, the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team began its last season at the Marie T. Mills Aquatics Center.

In the first home game of the season, the Mounties easily defeated Caltech, 20-3, (Wednesday, Sept. 7) and hit the road again for four games.

The Mounties (3-6) split two games at the Riverside City College Mini Tournament (Friday, Sept. 9), losing to Ottawa University of Arizona, 17-7, and defeating the host RCC Tigers, 18-11.

Nyquist Invitational

Mt. SAC traveled up North on Saturday (Sept. 10) to Saratoga and split two games in the 57th Annual Nyquist Invitational at West Valley College.

Mt. SAC opened the first of two games on Saturday against CCCAA State Runner-up West Valley, losing 19-4. In the afternoon game, the Mounties defeated Cabrillo College (Aptos, CA), 23-8.

In the win over Cabrillo, freshman driver Zack Ewing led the team with five goals on seven shots and had a team-leading five steals. Ewing is third in the state with 25 steals and fourth with 48 shots.

Freshman driver Jude Solis, who is second in the state with 22 assists, led with six in the game.

Sophomore goalie Noah Stark, in his two quarters of work between the pipes against Cabrillo, Stark didn't allow a goal, as he turned away nine shots. Stark, with 105 saves for the season, leads the state.

Edward (EJ) Lynch, Jasper Wang, Ewing and Brandon Fabrega each scored a goal in the loss to West Valley. Aidan Murphy, who is second in the state with 26 steals, had three in the game to lead the Mounties

Fabrega leads the state with 34 goals, is 4th in the state with 22 steals and is first in the state with 66 shots.
