Mounties fall to LBCC, 15-10 in SCC game

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team, after a 3-0 start in the South Coast Conference, suffered its first defeat Wednesday (October 27) to visiting Long Beach City College, 15-10.

Overall, the Mounties fell to 9-13, with only two games left this Friday, October 29 in the regular season at Southwestern College in the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament in Chula Vista.

Mt. SAC will host the SCC Championships, Thursday and Saturday, November 4 and 6.

Leading the way for the Mounties against the Vikings was freshman 2-meter Aidan Murphy with five goals. He was followed by freshman utility Adam Dow with three goals, while Ivan Morales and Trevor Ingersoll each added a goal.

Team leader in goals, Luke Noblett, was held scoreless on five shots in the game.

After the Vikings took an early, 1-0 lead, Mt. SAC scored two consecutive goals to take their first and only lead, 2-1, on a pair of goals by Dow.

Long Beach then reeled off seven consecutive goals for the 8-2 lead with 4:53 left in the first half.

Murphy broke the streak with a goal, assisted by Kyle Kurtz, at the 3:31 mark in the second period, to trail, 8-3.

The Vikings led, 10-3 at the half.

Mt. SAC, with a goal from Murphy late in the third period, cut the lead to five goals, 12-7.

Trailing 15-7, the Mounties scored the final three goals in five minutes to close the gap.
