Mt. SAC Men’s Water Polo Late Rally in So Cal’s Falls Short

(Norwalk, CA) A late fourth-period comeback by the Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team fell short as their season came to an end in the CCCAA Southern California Regional's Thursday (11-8) afternoon at Cerritos College.

Trailing 12-6 in the fourth period, the Mounties scored three goals in a two-minute span by Noah Brokaw, Jonathan Heredia and Cristian Lopez to trail by three, 12-9, with 4:24 left, but couldn't get any closer the rest of the way.

With the loss the Mounties end their season at 22-9 overall, the most wins since 2010.

Heredia (1 Asst., 1 Stl.) led the Mounties with three goals, while Aidan O'Neill (2 A, 1 Stl.) and Brokaw added two each.

The Mounties trailed by only a goal at the half, 6-5 but Grossmont shut them down in the third period and scored four goals for the 10-5 lead heading into the final period.

Barker finished the season sixth in state with 93 goals, while Heredia had 61 and Brokaw had 52.

Utility Noah Slack (46 A) and attacker Edgar Cueva (45 A) were 11th and 13th respectively in the state for the Mounties with assists.

Cueva finished third in state with 91 steals and Barker and Heredia had 58 and 56 steals, respectively.

Goalie Jake Simmons was second in state with 20 wins, third with 297 saves and seventh with a 54.0 save percentage
