Mt. SAC Men’s Water Polo Wins Two, Loses Two in Cuesta Tourney

(Morro Bay, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo Team concluded the weekend with a split, winning two and losing two games in the Cuesta College Tournament Saturday and Sunday October 13, 14 at Morro Bay High School.

The Mounties (17-6) lost two games on Saturday to Orange Coast College, 9-4 and host Cuesta College, 13-8.

They came back with two wins over Saddleback, 7-5 and Ventura 12-5 on Sunday.

"Sunday was much better than Saturday," Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo coach Marc Ruh said.  "It was a great weekend for us, full of learning opportunities that we hope to take into the last part of our season."

Leading the way for the Mounties was utility Jarrett Barker (2 Steals) with eight goals and center Noah Brokaw (1 A, 2 Stl.) with seven goals in three games.

Attacker Edgar Cueva led the team with five steals and added five goals and five assists, while Vincent Vizcaino had three goals and Jonathan Heredia had three goals, three assists and three steals.


Orange Coast College 9, Mt. SAC 4

Mt. SAC trailed 4-2 at the half on goals by Cueva and Barker. After a scoreless third period for the Mounties, Heredia and Brokaw scored in the fourth for the 9-4 final.


Cuesta 13, Mt. SAC 8

Barker and Cueva led the Mounties with three and two goals, respectively.

Mt. SAC trailed 9-3 at the half, with Brokaw, Cueva and Barker scoring goals. Trailing 12-4 after three periods, the Mounties outscored Cuesta, 4-1 in the final period on goals by Barker (2), Vizcaino and Heredia.


Mt. SAC 7, Saddleback 5

Leading the way for the Mounties with three goals was Barker and Cueva added two.

Mt. SAC held a 3-2 lead at the half as Heredia scored twice in the first and Brokaw scored with forty three seconds left in the second period to break the 2-2 tie.

The Mounties took a 5-3 lead in the third period with two goals by Barker. Saddleback added a goal to trail, 5-4 entering the final period in the tight game.

The Mounties took a three-goal lead, 7-4 on goals by Heredia at the 5:10 mark and Brokaw with 3:18 left and the Gauchos added one more goal to trail 7-5 with 1:44 left.


Mt. SAC 12, Ventura 5

Brokaw led the Mounties with four goals in the game and Vizcaino had two. Cristian Lopez and Heredia led the team with four and three steals respectively.

The Mounties took an insurmountable 7-1 lead after the first half and never looked back for the victory.

Ventura nearly matched the Mounties in the second half with four goals, but Mt. SAC totaled five for the 12-5 win.

The Mounties play at Cerritos College for the last South Coast Conference game this Wednesday October 17. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
