(Whittier, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Water Polo team, behind a handful of goals (five) from sophomore utility Nicholas Perez, defeated Rio Hondo College, 12-8, in a South Coast Conference game Tuesday afternoon.
Perez scored two of his five goals in the first two periods to help the Mounties to a, 6-2, first half lead. Perez now has 18 goals on the season.
Rio Hondo wouldn't go away as sophomore Kent Mertins and Daniel Lozano scored one and two goals respectively to bring the Roadrunners within two, 7-5, with 2:18 left in the third period.
That was the closest Rio Hondo would get as the Mounties scored five consecutive goals for the, 12-5, lead into the fourth period with 2:40 remaining, three of which came from Perez.
Sophomore driver Roman Aceres added three goals for the Mounties in the game.
The Mounties, 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference, take a short break from South Coast Confernece action to play four games in three days against four university teams in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
