Men Head Up North For American River Tournament

(WALNUT) After a 12-day layoff, the Mt. SAC men are ready to get back in the pool for a road trip and head up to Northern California for the American River College (Sacramento) Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

The Mounties were 3-1 last year at the tournament and 4-0 in 2014.

They will play two games on Friday and Saturday. Game times and opponents are as follows: Friday – 10:00 a.m., Mt. SAC vs. Sierra College; 1:00 p.m. Mt. SAC vs. American River. Saturday – 8:30 a.m., Mt. SAC vs. TBA; 12:15 p.m., Mt. SAC vs. Santa Rosa College.

"We will play 10 games in the course of 10 days and travel to Sacramento and the East Coast in the process.  Needless to say, this is going to be a very dificult stretch of the season." Said Coach Ruh. "Two conference games and four NCAA Division 2 games will make this a true test of where we are at right now.  It should be a lot of fun, and extreemly challenging."

On Friday the Mounties will start off with Sierra College of Rocklin, CA, which is 3-3. The Mounties played Sierra College in the Mt. SAC tourney. In the afternoon game Mt. SAC will play host American River (2-8). On Saturday the first game is TBA and the second game will be against Santa Rosa, which is 9-5.

The Mounties, who are 9-1 overall and 2-0 in conference, have five players in the top five in the state in four categories after ten games this season.

Sophomore Scott McDill (Walnut HS, Air Force Academy) is fourth in the state in scoring with 51 goals, while sophomore utility player Jeffrey Silverberg (Walnut HS) is second in assists with 32, just four behind the leader.

Freshman goaltender Andres Jaramillo (Montclair HS) is fifth in the state in saves with 135. Defensively the Mounties have the number one theft man in the state in sophomore center defenseman Thomas Randles (Claremont HS) with 56 and Silverberg is fourth with 39.

As a team the Mounties are fourth in the state with 187 goals and tops in steals with a whopping 344.

Second on the team in scoring is Silverberg with 35, while defensively after Randles and Silverberg, four other players have 30 or more steals: Hans Masten (36), Mike Meza (35), McDill (31) and Nick Perez (30).

The Mounties return to conference action on Monday October 3 against visiting L. A. Trade Tech for a 4:15 p.m. game.
