Mountie Men’s Water Polo keeps Rolling Along; Wins Fifth Straight Game

(WALNUT) By John M. Sherrard – The offensive juggernaut, otherwise known as the Mt. San Antonio College men's water polo team, reached the 100-plus goal mark in just the fifth game of the season at the Marie T. Mills swim complex Saturday afternoon.

The latest victories propelled the Mounties to four straight wins in the Citrus Tournament and fifth win to start the season.

In the morning game the Mounties defeated Grossmont, 18-11, and downed Cal Tech, 20-8, in the afternoon game.

The offensive leader again was Scott McDill (Walnut HS, Air Force Academy) with a game-high six goals against Grossmont. The sophomore, after an opening goal by Thomas Randles (Claremont HS), reeled off five consecutive goals. Randles, who had three goals, finished the first period assault with a goal.

McDill also had six steals.

Also leading the way on defense was freshman attacker Nicholas Perez (Upland HS) with five steals, along with freshman attacker Alec Rivera (Chino Hills HS) and sophomore 2-meter specialist Hans Masten (Claremont HS) with four each.

Sophomore utility man Jeffrey Silverberg (Walnut HS) added four goals and five assists. Sophomore Mike Meza (Chino HS) had five assists.

Sophomore goalie Andres Jaramillo (Montclair HS) made 17 saves and picked up his fourth win.

In the 20-8 victory over Cal Tech Silverberg led the Mounties with six goals and McDill had four.

Sophomore driver Luis Franco (Don Lugo HS) and Rivera had three goals each. On defense, Randles had six steals and sophomore Renin Devito (Glendora HS) added five.

Jaramillo saved 15 of 23 Cal Tech shots in the game.

Mt. SAC will continue with its South Coast Conference schedule this Wednesday, hosting Rio Hondo at 4:15 p.m.
