Mounties Record Multiple Top Finishes at Ben Brown Invitational

Fullerton, Calif. – The Mt. SAC Men's Track and Field Team put together an impressive showing against a deep field of four-year programs at the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by California State University, Fullerton on March 12–13.

The competitive meet featured athletes from top track and field programs including UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UNLV, Pepperdine, and California State Northridge among others.

Field events were split across the two days of competition, with half taking place Thursday and the remainder held Friday alongside the full slate of running events.

Track Highlights

Mt. SAC saw strong performances in several sprint and distance races. Marques Guzman placed 11th in the 100 meters with a time of 10.68 seconds, while Rashad Martin finished 10th in the 400 meters in 48.64.

In 1500 meters, Dillon Hightower led the Mounties with a seventh-place finish in 3:57.98, followed closely by Ethan Hufnagel, who placed 10th in 3:59.35.

The Mounties also impressed in the relays. The 4x100-meter relay team of Dominic Lopez, Yannik Berg, Bradley Camping, and Armando Carbajal Jr. finished fifth overall with a time of 41.28.

Mt. SAC followed that with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400 relay, as Johnny Gardner IV, Guzman, Martin, and Dillon Thomasson combined for another strong performance on the track.

Field Event Standouts

The Mounties had several top finishes in the field events, highlighted by a first-place performance from Taiyo Ishiguro in the javelin. Ishiguro launched a throw of 203' 10", marking his best throw of the season so far.

Mt. SAC also claimed runner-up finishes in multiple events. Ethan Johnson placed second in the long jump with a leap of 23'4.75", while teammate Tyrus Murguia finished third at 23'4.5", giving the Mounties two spots on the podium.

In the triple jump, Myles Massie took second place with a mark of 50'3.5", while Brandyn Wetherspoon added a fifth-place finish at 48'6.25".

The Mounties also had a strong presence in the vertical jumps. Ja'Len Taylor finished fifth in the high jump clearing 6'7", with Anik Singh and Michael Danna placing eighth and ninth respectively.

In the pole vault, Caleb Garcia secured second place with a clearance of 14'1.25", while Luke Kottke finished seventh at 13'1.5".

In the throws, Toni Babatunde recorded top-10 finishes in both the shot put (49' 5.5") and discus (152' 4"), placing ninth in each event.
