Mounties Qualify for the U20 USA Track and Field Championships and Olympic Trials

(Walnut, CA) Sophomore sprinter Asani Hampton (Yucaipa H.S. / Yucaipa, CA) has qualified for the 2024 USATF Olympic Trials, which will be held from June 21-23, 2024, at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Freshman decathlete Jadan Williams (Redondo Union H.S. / Redondo Beach, CA) and Devin Paton, Hurdles/Long Jump, (Monrovia H.S. / Monrovia, CA) represented Mt. SAC at the 2024 USA Track and Field (USATF) U20 Outdoor Championships, held June 12-13, 2024, at Hayward Field.

Hampton is a two-time individual state champion in the 100m and one of the fastest sprinters in Mt. SAC history. He was the anchor leg on this year's 4x100m state championship team and significantly contributed to the men's track and field state championship team titles in 2022 and 2024. He will be competing at the USATF Olympic Trials in hopes of earning a spot on the USATF Olympic team. Asani is one of the fastest 100m runners in the country and will be competing alongside professional and university athletes.

Williams was the top freshman decathlete in California with a score of 6,439. He placed second at the So Cal Regional Championships and third at the 3C2A State Championships. This is his first year competing in the decathlon, and he qualified for the U20s at the regional championships with a score of 6,373 points. He improved his score at the state championships, achieving 6,439 points.

Paton qualified in the 400m hurdles and, with his personal best of 24'2.5", also qualified in the long jump. He has a personal best of 52.38 in the 400m hurdles. Paton was the 400m hurdles South Coast Conference Champion, So Cal Regional Champion, and finished second at the state championships. In the long jump, he was the conference champion.
