Several Mounties come away from UC San Diego meet with top-10 finishes

(San Diego, CA) Members of the Mt. SAC men's track and field team competed in the annual Triton Invitational at UC San Diego on Friday and Saturday and came away with top-10 finishes.

Jose Melchor placed third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:56.94, while teammate Chris Weiland turned in a time of 1:55.14 to finish eighth in the 800-meter run.

Leroy Williams IV placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.73 seconds.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, five Mounties finished in the top 10, including Nicholas Dorsett (9:47.06) in second place, Joseluis Pluma (9:51.15) in third, Adrian Hernandez, Jr. (10:19.98) in seventh, Kevin Reed (10:46.61) in ninth, and Kurt Kaihara (10:50.79) in tenth. Andrew Clements (11:02.74) placed eleventh in the event for Mt. SAC.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jonathan Jackson-Williams, Azad Arnaud, Brandon Chau, and Gregory Hennes turned in a time of 43.77 seconds, good enough for seventh place.

Shallamar Poole placed seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.91 meters.

Calvin Oury (4.30 meters) and Daniel Starkey (4.10 meters) finished seventh and ninth in the pole vault, respectively.

David Ripley took eighth in the long jump with a distance of 6.60 meters.

The Mounties will participate in the Mt. SAC Relays hosted by El Camino College on Thursday, April 18, in Torrance.
