(Los Angeles, CA) Athletes from the Mt. SAC men's and women's track and field teams participated in the annual Bob Larsen Carnival/Jim Bush Legends Invite at UCLA's Drake Stadium on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30. Competing against athletes from four-year schools, several Mounties turned in top-10 performances in their respective events.
For the women's team, Rebecca Ruiz placed fifth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:23.42, while teammate Sadie Encinas finished in eighth at 38:31.01.
Senna Forkner placed eighth in the javelin throw at 36.44 meters and Darla Gonzalez cleared a height of 3.80 meters to finish tied for fifth in the pole vault.
On the men's side, Shallamar Poole's 1.80-meter leap tied him for third place in the high jump open event, while Christopher Weiland turned in a time of 4:05.90, good enough to finish fifth in the one-mile run. Salvador Capetillo's time of 30:43.50 earned him a fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.
In the 800-meter run, Weiland (1:54.99) and Adan Castellanos (1:55.58) finished in fifth and seventh places, respectively.
Isaiah Wilson turned in a time of 4:00.39 in the 1,500-meter run to finish sixth and Leroy Williams IV placed 10th in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking in at 14.92 seconds.
Aaron Mahlow (56.55) and Jalen Robledo (56.79) placed eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles, while Isaiah Mitchell (13.45 meters) and Jarrod Sanchez (12.12 meters) finished sixth and eighth, also respectively, in the triple jump.
Ryan Lopez (4.45 meters) and Nathaniel Carranza (4.30 meters) placed eighth and tied for 10th in the pole vault, respectively.
Next up for the men's and women's teams is the Southern California Multi-Event Championships at Cerritos College on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2-3, in Norwalk.
