Mt. SAC had six Decathletes and one Heptathlete competing in the combined events Southern California Track & Field Regional Championship this week at Cerritos College.  Alexander Ostrowski placed fourth overall and will be heading to the State Championships in May, while fellow teammate, Dalton Sherwood, placed seventh and could also make the event.  The state championships accepts the top six place finishers and with the possibility of a scratch Sherwood would be in.

Other Mountie competitors included Justin Castellano, Kevin Murphy, Jesus Lopez and Salvador Hernandez in the Decathlon and Nicolette Garcia in the Heptathlon.

The Decathlon, for men, is comprised of ten events over two days while the Heptathlon, for women, is seven events.  These two events are considered the most challenging events in the sport and require skill, stamina and strength over the course of the two days.

All other regional events will take place in May at Antelope Valley College.
