Mt. SAC Soccer wins seventh straight; Vasquez scores two goals

(Compton, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team, led by sophomore forward Andrew Vazquez with two goals, won its seventh game in a row with a 3-1 win over host Compton in a South Coast Conference game on Friday (October 7).

The Mounties, ranked third in the latest CCCSIA State Poll (Oct. 5), improved to 10-2 overall and 2-0 in the SCC North.

Vasquez and sophomore forward Edward Castro each scored a goal in the 14th and 32nd minutes for a 2-0 first-half lead.

Mt. SAC sophomore midfielder Alex Mendez assisted on both goals. Mendez currently is third in the state with nine assists.

Vasquez scored his second goal of the game in the 58th minute for the 3-0 lead. Jacob Cervantes assisted on the goal.

Compton broke the shutout with a goal late in the half with a goal in the 72nd minute.

Goalies Daniel Ramirez and Jacob Cardenas split time in goal for the Mounties.

Perhaps the biggest game of the year looms on Tuesday (October 11), as the No. 3 Mounties take on No. 1 Cerritos. The Falcons remain unbeaten this season with a 10-0-2 record and are on a seven-game winning streak.
