(Torrance, CA) With the regular season winding down, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team recorded its eighth shutout with a 1-0 victory over El Camino College in a South Coast Conference crossover game Tuesday afternoon.
With the win the Mounties improved to 11-2-2 overall and will host Long Beach City College in another crossover game this Friday October 20.
Scoring the only goal late in the game in the 83rd minute was sophomore midfielder Alexis Diaz-Paya for the 1-0 lead. The goal was the fourth of the season for Diaz-Paya.
The shot, on an assist from sophomore forward Sam Ponting, came at the top of the box and went into the lower right corner past the Warriors goal keeper.
The assist was Ponting's fourth of the season for the Mounties and sophomore keeper Edwyn Gutierez recorded his sixth shutout. Gutierrez made three saves in the game as El Camino took seven shots in the game.
Gutierrez, who made a penalty kick stop last season to win the CCCAA title for the Mounties, improved his goals against average to 0.36 for third in the state. He is also fourth in state with a .930 save percentage.
