Men’s  Soccer hangs another three-spot on its opponent;  Mounties Defeat  Mira Costa, 3-0, Gamboa Nets Goal, Assist

(Walnuts, CA) A second straight three-goal shutout by the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer team propelled them to an early 2-0 start to the season.

The Mounties have received goals from five different players in their first two games and their season-ending 2016 goaltender Edwyn Guitierrez has picked up right where he left off with another shutout.

"Today (Tuesday) we did a good job off the movement of the ball, especially in the first half," Sanchez said. "We really enjoyed the first half in the way our midfielders were moving the ball."

As for the multiple scorers Sanchez simply said, "We want to keep that balance."

"On the first goal (Andre Gamboa) we went out of our style on a long ball and he used his speed to go one-on-one and it was a good finish," said Sanchez of the quick start at the 9 minute mark.

Assisting on the play was freshman defender Jorge Estrada, his second of the season.

The Mounties added to their lead late in the first half (40th minute) when freshman midfielder/forward Marty Raygoza scored an unassisted goal for the 2-0 lead.

In the 65th minute sophomore defender Scott Bracci just missed a goal after he took a long shot that was just tipped over the top of the goal by the Mira Costa keeper.

Sophomore defender Jason Ramos finished the scoring for the Mounties after a corner kick that was assisted by Gamboa. The goal came in the 77th minute.

Sophomore keeper Edwyn Gutierrez maintained his second shutout with a point-blank save in the 79th minute.

Gutierrez has not allowed a goal for the fourth consecutive game, dating back to the CCCAA state final four games.

The Mounties will host the four-team Azteca/Adidas Soccer team this Friday and Sunday. They will host West Hills Lemoore at 7:30 pm on Friday and Sunday will play Fullerton at 7:00 pm.

Also in the tournament are Rio Hondo and West Hills colleges.
