(Ventura, CA) Freshmen golfers Ethan Thomas and Trevor Ruiz led the Mt. SAC Men's Golf team in the Orange Empire Conference Neutral Match at the Olivas Links Golf Course on Monday (March 21) in Ventura.

Thomas, who blistered the front nine with a 5-under-Par 31, ended up with a 2-under-Par 70, while Ruiz carded a 1-under 71.

Highlighting Thomas' 31 were five birdies and four pars.

"Ethan is a great talent," Mt. SAC Men's Golf Coach Greg Osbourne said. "He had it going through the 10th hole, then had some trouble, but finished strong."

Thomas was shooting a 6-under through 10 but shot a bogey on the next two holes for a 4-under 44 through the 12th hole. He ended up with three Pars, a triple bogey, a bogey, and a final-hole eagle on the 18th.

Other Mt. SAC individual scores were Brandon Winters (78), Felix Tsui (79), Aaron Fekin (79), and Mark McCabe (82).

The Mounties finished with a 377 for sixth place in the field of 18 teams.

"Our team is starting to come together," Osbourne said. "If we can stop the unforced errors, then we can be consistent as a team."

Finishing first in the event was College of the Canyons with a team score of 363.
