(La Jolla, CA) Just three strokes separated the Mt. SAC Men's Golf Team from a first-place finish in the Clash of the Coast event at famed Torrey Pines Golf Course Wednesday (Mar. 11).
The event, hosted by Palomar College, gives the players a chance to play on a PGA course, which is the annual tour stop now known as The Farmers Open, held in January on the West Coast Swing.
The unique event, which is a break from the normal tournament-style play, gives the players a chance to team up in pairs.
College of the Canyons finished on top of the eight teams with a score of 196. They also had the low medalists, who shot a combined 63. Mt. SAC finished with a 199, followed by Santa Barbara CC (204), Orange Coast (207), Palomar (214), Mt. San Jacinto (221), Saddleback (224) and Bakersfield (226).
Two of Mt. SAC's three pairs - Blake Copeland/James Johnson and Ben Sanders/Tommy Chung - tied for second overall out of 24 pairs' teams with 65's. The third Mt. SAC pair was Kotaro Noda/Chu-Wen (Felix) Tsui with a 69.
The Mounties will continue with Orange Empire Conference (Inland Division) play Monday (Mar.16) at Soboba Springs CC in San Jacinto.
