Chula Vista, Calif. – In their highest scoring game of the season, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team left no doubt when they took down Southwestern College 107-71 on Wednesday, December 3. In the 36-point win, the Mounties had six players that reached the double digits, propelling the offense to the commanding victory. With that being said, Mt. SAC's record sits at 6-2, while the Jaguars fall to 2-6 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
This game belonged to the Mounties from start to finish, beginning with a 16-0 run in the first five minutes of play fueled by threes from Jeremy Williams and Jaidyn Simpson, a layup from Ryan Wheeler, and a jumper plus free throws from Zion Booker.
Southwestern finally broke through with a layup and free throw from Tres Luzey, but the Mounties continued to roll. Simpson led all scorers in the first half with 16 points and five rebounds, while Williams and Booker added 10 points each. Emmanuel Barnett paced the Jaguars with eight first-half points, and Keoni Henson collected three rebounds. Mt. SAC entered halftime firmly in command, leading 60–34.
Mt. SAC continued its same level of play throughout the second half starting off with five straight layups from Simpson, Wheeler, Booker, and Dayvon Gates, followed by another Williams three. Southwestern countered with buckets from Aaron Owens and three-pointers by Barnett and Christian Gamboa, but the Jaguars couldn't match Mt. SAC's offensive pace. The Mounties outscored Southwestern 47–37 in the final period.
Noah Layne led Mt. SAC in second-half scoring with eight points, while Wheeler and Ethan Nelson each grabbed four rebounds. Antonio Camarao anchored the defense with three blocks. For Southwestern, Derek Edmond delivered a strong half with 11 points—going 5-for-5 at the line and sinking two threes—while Adam Chemsi hauled in seven offensive boards to generate second-chance opportunities.
