(Walnut, CA) Sophomore guards Nick Hopkins and CJ Fisher led the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team to a 77-69 South Coast Conference crossover win over visiting Cerritos College on Friday, January 12.
With the win, the Mounties improved to a near-perfect 16-1 record with their eighth win in a row.
Hopkins (8 RB) was nearly perfect from the field and at the free throw line, going 8 for 10 and 6 for 8 at the charity stripe, for a team-high 22 points.
Fisher (5-9 FGM-A, 2-4 3 PM-A, 8-12 FTM-A, 8 RB) added 20 points, while freshman guards Jon McCullough (4-4 FGM-A, 1-1 3 PM-A, 2-5 FTM-A) and Jerimiyah Smith (3-5 FGM-A, 1-2 3 PM-A, 4-4 FTM-A, 4 RB) had 11 points each.
In a game that was back and forth throughout and neither team took a big lead, the Mounties held a 3-point lead at the half.
Fisher gave the Mounties, ranked ninth in the state, a four-point, 71-67, lead with just over a minute left in the game.
Mt. SAC outscored Cerritos, 6-2, to put the game away with an 8-point victory.
The Mounties continue SCC crossover action at El Camino on Wednesday, January 17.
