Mt. SAC Men’s Basketball Falls to Chaffey 60-58 on Last second Basket in Conference Opener

(Walnut, CA) Trailing early in the second half, the Mounties made a comeback to tie the game only to fall in the last three seconds of the game to Chaffey College 60-58 in a South Coast Conference North opener Wednesday night at Mt. SAC.

With the Mounties down by as much as nine points 37-28, with five minutes elapsed in the second half, Mt. SAC outscored the Panthers 12-3 to tie up the game at 40-40 on a 3-point shot by guard Marc Howard Jr. (3 of 4 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 3 Assts., 8 Pts.).

Cory Grant sank a 3-pointer with 3:16 remaining in the game for the 57-55 Mountie lead, however Chaffey connected for three free throws and a one-point 58-57 lead with 1:01 left.

Grant sank a free throw with just 19 seconds left to tie the game 58-58, but the Panthers made the final shot for the win.

Leading the way for the Mounties (7-11, 0-1) was a season-high 19 points by guard Corey Grant (7-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT, 4 Assts.) and forward Minfeke Sanue (5-6 FG) with 10.

Forward Aaron Dutcher (4-6 FG, 5 RB) added eight points and guard Darrell Williams (2-4 FG, 2-3 FTM) came off the bench to add six for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC continues SCC North action Friday as they host East Los Angeles College at 7 p.m.
